Ridgeline Gutters

Leaf guards

Never climb a ladder in November again

Charlotte drops pine needles on your roof all year, then finishes with oak leaves in the autumn. A guard keeps that out of the gutter so the water can leave the way it is supposed to.

We fit them to the gutters you already have, once we have checked those gutters are worth fitting to.

Why fit them

What a guard actually does

Six things change the day they go on, and only one of them is about leaves.

The twice-yearly clean stops

Pines shed year round here and the oaks finish the job in November. A mesh means you stop booking the ladder, and stop getting on it yourself.

Water leaves at the downspout

A blocked gutter overflows at the fascia. That water runs down the wall, into the soffit, and eventually somewhere that costs a great deal more than a guard.

Nothing moves in

An open gutter full of damp leaf litter is a good place to be a bird, a squirrel or a wasp. A mesh takes the invitation away.

The gutter itself lasts longer

Wet debris holds moisture against the metal through the winter and adds weight the hangers were never sized to carry. Both shorten the life of the run.

No standing water in summer

A gutter packed with debris holds water after every storm. Standing water in July is where mosquitoes breed, ten feet from your back door.

It pays for itself

Two cleanings a year at Charlotte rates covers a guard in about four years. A good one lasts a great deal longer than four years.

Before you decide

The questions we actually get

Do they work with pine needles?
Micro-mesh does. The wider screens and the foam inserts do not, whatever the box says, and around here that matters more than anywhere. We only fit stainless micro-mesh for that reason.
Can they go on the gutters I already have?
Usually. The gutter has to be sound, pitched correctly and firmly hung, because a guard adds a little weight and hides what is underneath. We check that first and tell you if it is not worth it.
Will it affect my roof warranty?
Not the way we fit them. Systems that slide under the shingles can void a manufacturer's warranty, so we mount to the gutter itself wherever the roof allows it, and tell you when it does not.
Do I ever have to clean them?
Honestly, yes, but not the way you do now. Fine grit and pollen build a film on the mesh over a few years and a rinse from the ground clears it. That is a hose, not a ladder in November.
What do they cost?
They are priced by the foot, so it depends on how much gutter you have and how many storeys it is. We measure the run and give you the number before any work starts.

Worth guarding, or worth replacing?

We will measure the run, check the pitch and the hangers, and tell you straight which one it is.
